One area of parenthood where I am slacking off a bit is on a birthday party front. Ever since the girls were born we take them on vacation to celebrate their birthday – followed for a small family-only birthday party. I am ashamed to admit that they’ve never had a proper birthday party thrown for them – with their friends, party favors, entertainment, etc. I don’t think I can get away with that for much longer because this year, when we celebrated Mia and Alexa’s birthday on a Disney Cruise with a Princesses meet-and-greet (and Princesses are really big with them now!) they were wondering why their friends were not there.
Inna (my sister), on the other hand, is an exact polar opposite of me – she starts planning and prepping for her kids’ parties at least 6 months in advance and throws the best parties known to man. At each party I think that anything any more creative is simply impossible and then she goes and does something even better for the next one! Last year she did a Under the Sea party for her older daughter; this year it was a Snow White party (I am still kicking myself for not bringing my camera!). So when she told me that a Sesame Street themed bash that she as throwing for her two year old was her favorite party that she’d done so far I could not wait to attend. And sure enough this party ROCKED! There were so many special touches including:
A custom (MADE by Inna) Elmo rainbow cake (not only it was beautiful on the outside and the inside – seven colors of the rainbow!) it was super delicious!
Elmo and Cookie Monster cupcakes:
Oscar’s Slimy Pudding (a.k.a. chocolate pudding with chocolate cookie crumbles and gymmy worms) and Ernie’s Rubber Duckies (a.k.a. cupcakes!)
Cookie Monster’s Bake shop with every single cookie found under the sun – AND goodie bags for guests to take them home!
A ‘Gift Shop’ with custom made (my by sister!) Abby Cadabby headbands (with purple and pink ‘pig tails), bracelets, Elmo Necklaces, and all other sorts of goodies:
Custom hand-painted (again, by my sister!) gift pails:
custom made (cut out and drawn – again by my sister!) giant Sesame Street characters:
and a ‘Photo Booth’ with a Sesame Street backdrop. The birthday girl (in a Elmo outfit of course!) had a blast and so did every else!
Yep, Inna definitely got the creative genes in our family but I still love her:) With great power (to create amazing children parties) comes great responsibility and I’ve been forever trying to convince her that she should share her talent and get into a children party planning business. And she finally decided to do that! So if are you looking for someone to plan the most amazing and creative birthday party for your kids – look no further and email my sister at innakirakozova@yahoo.com!
