Little beauty

A lot of time when people call me to book a newborn session they ask about typical newborn portraits.  The key to getting newborn portraits that everybody loves – cuddly curled up sleeping babies –  is to have a newborn session as early after the birth as possible.  It is best to have a session no later than 2 weeks afterwards, although in the past I’ve photographed ‘older’ newborns as well with great success.   During this time babies are still very ‘mouldable’ and sleepy.   A lot of times though, even at a tender age of only a week old, babies already have a mind of their own and choose to stay awake… who can blame them after all – a photo session with yours truly is a very exciting experience and not to be missed:)  So in addition to being a newborn photographer I have to get my ‘baby nurse’ hat on and get the newborns to sleep.  It may take a while but with Mom’s nursing, parents and me rocking babies, a very handy White Noise app on my iPhone, and experience of handling my own two girls and numerous newborns I’ve photographed eventually all my newborns fall asleep.

This was the case with little A.: she fought sleep for close to two hours!  But when she fell asleep, I was able to move her around, position her for the best possible images and photograph her to my heart’s content!   It was well worth the wait – we got beautiful images if I may say so myself.

Baby A. is beyond precious – as you can see for yourselves – beautiful big eyes, adorable lips, big cheeks that just begged to be kissed!  She was so cuddly and squeezable that  it was very difficult to give her back to her parents at once our newborn session was done:)

One of my favorite things about being a Ridgewood newborn photographer is seeing parents completely and utterly in love with their brand new babies.  This little girl is absolutely adored by her parents and it showed in everything they did: the way her Mom was looking at her, or how her Dad knew exactly what her expressions meant and how to best hold her to calm her down.  I feel so honored to be able to capture all this love:)

Her Mom is absolutely beautiful – look how stunning she looks and this image was taken just over a week after baby A. was born!
