I find it much more difficult to photograph Mia and Alexa than photographing other kids. For them I am just ‘Mom’ and while I get kids attention at all my photoshoots with my own girls I fail miserable in that area.
After several fruitless attempts I decided to make my life easier and gave me on the idea of getting a picture of both the girls together for our holiday card. Photographing them separately was easier but it was not easy by any means. Alexa was pretty good and stood still for me for a few seconds. But Mia was a different story – I tried photographing her for THREE days in a row! First day I spent good amount of time dressing her up – making sure that her dress went with the cardigan, tights and her coat. On the second day I decided not to worry about the tights and a cardigan and just made sure that her turtleneck looked OK. I was not able to get a single good image of Mia during these two days – she kept running towards me, hugging me and saying in the most tender voice ‘mama’. Normally that would melt my heart but I was determined to stay focused and get those pictures taken! My determination did not help though and I had to call it a day after getting quite a workout from running after Mia all over the yard.
On the third day I gave up on trying to dress her nicely, just put on her coat and took her outside. She was being her normal self, which means that she was running around all around our lawn and laughing so loudly that people at the end of our street could probably hear her. The second she would get into a pose and I would point my camera at her, she would be up again running to new and exciting things. I almost gave up when Mia finally took pity on me and paused for a moment. That was enough for me to take one picture, which I ended up using on our Holiday Cards this year.
I love how our card came out this year – I love Alexa’s shy smile and Mia’s serious look and those chubby little hands! Sometimes I look at these images and can hardly believe that they are mine!
Merry Christmas to all who celebrates it!
