And off to College She Goes | Bergen County Senior Photoshoot

I first heard about ‘senior’ photoshoots when I was attending a photography workshop in Austin back in 2013; they were very big in the South but not as popular up in the North East. I feel times are changing though because more and more parents (and kids) are asking for senior portraits here in Bergen County. And if you think about it – it makes perfect sense – kids going away to college is such a huge milestone and it definitely deserves to be captured. If you did a photoshoot with your kids when they were little, you should definitely do it when they are at the edge of adulthood.

Abby wanted a ‘nature-y’ photoshoot and we found the perfect location for it right here in Bergen County – in the middle of Ridgewood! This spot has it all – beautiful landscaped grounds, a bridge and even a babbling brook! She also wanted action shots and showed me her Pintrest board (show me a high school girl who does not have a Pintrest board?!) and there were lots of photos of girls running through fields. Her Mom wanted more classical portraits of Abby and I think with this photoshoot we were able to achieve both goals!

It was a bit drizzly when we started (thank goodness for my clear umbrella that I brought from Japan – it made for a very cool prop) but in the middle of the photoshoot the drizzle stopped and we were left with soft flattering light.

I love photographing teens – it’s such a change from photographing little kids (which, don’t get me wrong, I love as well). It’s just with having two teens myself (who will be seniors before I know it) it makes photographing these almost-adults very special.
