As a family photographer, a lot of families I work with have young -toddlers and elementary-aged kids; I find that’s generally the most popular age range for family photos. But what about when your kids get older – what about those tween and teen years? Speaking from personal experience as a Mom of two SEVENTEEN year olds, I firmly believe that you should continue with your photo sessions. I hire a photographer for my annual photoshoot at least once a year and I can’t tell you how much I treasure those photos. At every age I think about how grown up my kids are but now looking at photos of them when they were 12, 13 or even 15 I realize how young they look compared to what they look like now. As I was gathering up photos for their senior yearbook,I took a trip down memory lane and looking through hundreds of their photos brought me so my joy!
As kids get older, it gets harder and harder to find time for a family session – between school and gazillion activities most of our kids have, time is a very precious commodity and it’s not easy to carve time for a photoshoot. But believe me when I say it is WORTH it!
I love when my families stay with me year after year and I get to capture their kids as they grow up. I’ve been photographing these guys for OVER A DECADE and it is pretty amazing to see how the kids change and yet the parents stay the same! It was so great catching up with these and learning all about middle and high school adventures, dance and horseback riding!
