Here is a session spotlight of a family photo session I had in Ridgewood. I spent one Friday afternoon with them and had the best time! They are funny, fun, easy going and just plain nice!
Baby L. was a bit shy at first (as her Mom mentioned in the Pre-Session Questionnaire, she takes a bit to warm up to), but once she did, we were best friends. She showed me her toys, played with puzzles (some of them she inherited from her Mom!), fed her dolls, model her brand new back pack and gave me lots of beautiful smiles. Afterwards, as her Mom later told me, she was telling people that Ms. Lena babysits her sometimes:) So if a photo session with me is like spending time with a fun babysitter, I take it as a compliment:)
While I was photographing baby L., her big brother K. kept checking in on her to make sure she was doing Ok… but I think what he really wanted to know was when I would photograph HIM:) He is the coolest 6 year old I’ve met in a long time – he has a TON of guitars, a harmonica, a drum set and he actually knows how to play them really well – he really is a one-man-wonder band! The Beatles is his favorite band – seriously, how cool is that?!!! So during the session we were pretending that he was one of the Beatles and I was a photographer taking pictures for a cover of their new album – we got some pretty cool images I think!
I love photographing clients at their homes, and will continue to do that even now, when my brand new natural light studio is open in Ridgewood. I think that there is really no place like home to make children (and their parents) to feel relaxed and comfortable. And whenever I photograph people at their homes in Ridgewood or surrounding towns, I always do a combination of indoor and outdoor images (weather permitting). Fortunately, Mother Nature cooperated for this session and after photographing these kids in their rooms we headed to the backyard for some more family fun. We took turns telling each other jokes, playing games, running, jumping, photographing each other (K. took a picture of ME with my camera and was very surprised when his image did not make it to their gallery of edited images) and having grand ol’ time. Towards the end of the session I photographed Mom and Dad – I think it is always good to remember that first parents were a COUPLE and that’s why I always try to capture Mom and Da without kids. By that time, a slight chaos erupted in the backyard but Mom and Dad were real troopers and I just LOVE these images I captured of them.
There were so many happy, lifestyle images from this session that I had a very hard time narrowing them down for this session spotlight. I was not the only one who was not able to narrow them down much – this family got a big canvas to go over their mantel and a collage of 9 canvases to go in their living room. The day I delivered their order, I received an email from this Mom that all canvases had already been hung up and they really brightened up the room. I love it so much when my clients order wall art and get to see and enjoy their beautiful images every day!
