Our last trip of the COVID summer of 2020 was to Cape Cod. We thought it would be cool to go to three major beach destinations on the Eastern Seaboard – Outer Banks, Jersey Shore and Cape Cod but for a while New Jersey was on the 14 day quarantine list for MA so I did not think that a three beach vacation summer was going to happen. But then miracle of miracles – Massachusetts removed New Jersey from the quarantine list and we were free to go!
We wanted to stay somewhere with a cute downtown, somewhere we could walk to restaurants, bakeries and ice cream shops, a place with that quaint charm that Cape Cod is known for and also shark-free beaches. After much deliberation and talking to the people in the ‘know’ we settled on Falmouth. This town fit the bill perfectly – it’s in the beginning of the cape so driving time was shorter than if we went to let’s say Chatham or Provincetown. It has a really cute main street with plenty of restaurants to satisfy foodies like us. And based on shark sightings maps, we felt we would we safe in the water in case we decided to go for a swim:)
And even though the weather did not cooperate in the beginning of our trip (it was rainy and so cold that we had to buy jeans for Alexa!) we had a wonderful time! We explored quaint towns (Provincetown was our favorite), ate delicious food (I had lobster rolls literally every day!), saw amazing sunsets, walked on the ocean floor at low tide, went kayaking and exploring, roasted marshmallows and relaxed in our cute air B&B while watching our favorite shows. Cape Cod did not disappoint and I am sure we will be back one day!
And if you are planning your own trip to Cape Cod or want more specifics re all we did and saw, scroll below for practical info, such as where to stay and eat and what to do while vacationing with kids on Cape Cod.
Where to Stay
The house we stayed at was our favorite house we stayed at in a long long time. Everything from the location (literally a block from main street in Falmouth), to the furnishings, to the stunning backyard (with an outdoor shower, a hammock and a chimenea) was great. If we are ever in Falmouth again I would not hesitate to book this place again.
What do Do
ProvinceTown – I think this town was our favorite – it’s happening and colorful and full of great restaurants. Definitely worth a trip!
Chatham – the town itself was cute but there is a bit to do outside of the town as well. We checked out a windmill and walked on a nice beach – and did not spot any sharks!
Kayaking – we rented a kayak and went for a kayak ride to the Popponesset Island – it was wonderful!
The Knob – in Falmouth – a peninsula that’s nice to walk around on – great at sunset. We had a photoshoot there and it was absolutely stunning
White Cedar Swamp in Wellfleet – a really cool walk/hike in the woodsy area by the beach
Brewster flats – a must – check out when low tide is (it changes every day) and try to get there when low time is around sunset – you can thank me now for all the awesomeness you will get to see!
Beebe Woods – a really fun place in Falmouth. I don’t even know how to describe it other thanI quirky – definitely worth a visit.
Martha’s Vineyard – if you have time, it’s definitely worth a day trip. Martha’s Vineyard camp Meeting association in Oaks Bluffs is pretty amazing to walk around – it’s like Cape May in New Jersey (cute victorian houses) but 100% better!
To Eat
Here are a few of our favorite restaurants:
Hope you find this post useful and enjoy your own trip to Cape Cod!
