We started out summer European roadtrip in Zurich – Victor and I were there in 2010 but honestly I did not remember much so rediscovering this beautiful city was such a lovely surprise! We checked out a few churches (including Fraumünster Church with famous Chagal windows!), walked along the lake and of course had fondue and raclette!

After Zurich we spent time in Alsace (more on that here) and then we headed back to Switzerland. We checked out Laudenbrunnen and Wengen – both definitely worth a day trip with their glacier valleys and beautiful peaks.

We chose Grindelwald as our home base – the location of this town and our hotel could not have been more picturesque – you can see it for yourselves in these photos taken from our balcony and right outside the hotel!

Switzerland is all about nature, rolling hills, green pastures, happy cows and high peaks and we saw all of that! I am not a fan of heights, anything heights adjacent or any actives that require you to wear a helmets. So we opted out of a death trap that is a cable car and instead took a cog train all the way up to Klein Scheidegg (6762 feet elevation) where we admired glaciers and snow capped peaked and did some hiking.
the sights of pastures with cows, the sounds of cowbells (Christopher Walken was right / you need more cow bell!), the smell of fresh grass and giant mountains – I think this is as Swiss as it gets!

We did not have much time to Switzerland and my family is already talking about going back for more hiking and views!
